-------------------------------------
The Canadian Masters Ski Championships will be held in Fredericton, at Killarney Lake, and will be hosted by the Wostawea Ski Club from February 19 to 22, 2026. In preparation for this event, CCNB and CCNS have partnered to offer a Regional Workshop at Killarney Lake, Fredericton, from January 23 to 25, 2026. Click to register.
GOAL OF WORKSHOP
1. To provide skiers who will be participating in the National Championships with training focused on race tactics and competition preparation.
2. To give intermediate-level skiers, who are not necessarily interested in racing, the opportunity to refine, develop, and improve their skiing skills.
The instructor for the workshop will be Stephen Novosad, Coach Development Manager at Nordiq Canada. As a coach developer, he is responsible for designing and delivering coaching material for Nordiq Canada. In this role, Stephen has traveled across the country working with athletes and coaches of all levels. His passion for skiing, high energy, enthusiasm, knowledge, and skill make this a meaningful experience for all participants.
WORKSHOP CONTENT
The camp will take place in Fredericton, on the same trails designated for the 2026 Masters Championships. The following activities and development opportunities will be offered during the weekend:
1. Pacing-oriented workouts (at anaerobic threshold and race pace) on the most challenging portions of the course.
These sessions will be particularly beneficial for those competing in the Championships but will also provide excellent fitness training for all skiers.
2. Strategies for skiing the racecourse efficiently.Technique refinement (in either classic or skate skiing), focusing on critical elements of competitive skiing: climbing, descending, transitions, and adapting technique.
3. Race tactics: the decisions a skier makes along the way—lines on descents (especially when surrounded by other skiers), finding the best snow, managing speed, etc.
4. Both classic and skate style sessions.
5. Race-day ski preparation: a practical waxing workshop focused on how to make your skis fast and get good kick (for classic, at least).
SCHEDULE + STRUCTURE
Each participant can adjust their effort level based on personal fitness and goals.
Sessions will alternate between classic and skate in the morning and afternoon, recognizing that some skiers practice only one technique.
There will also be low-intensity group distance sessions to balance out the more demanding workouts.
