The Old Glory Chapter NSDAR cordially invites you to the dedication of the Benjamin Franklin historical marker and unveiling of the "Ben on the Bench" bronze statue by acclaimed sculptor George Lundeen. In the spirit of Franklin—printer, inventor, and our town's namesake—this America250 commemoration celebrates his friendship with Dr. Hugh Williamson, Williamson County's namesake and fellow Constitution signer.
As Franklin himself declared, "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately"—let us gather in joyful unity! The formal program includes:
Unveiling and marker dedication, heralded by fife and drum.
Brief historical note on Franklin.
Color Guard presentation and ceremonial musket salute from the Lt. Andrew Crockett Chapter SAR.
Living history exhibit.
Military-style cake cutting with Revolutionary replica sword, followed by photo opportunities and mingling.
Birthday cake reception with SAR-sponsored Patriot Box for children's hands-on activities (Declaration and Constitution signing, crafts).
Children encouraged to "Dress Like Ben or Betsy Ross" in colonial outfits.
Presented in partnership with the Williamson County Archives and Museum
