Besides our awesome Blue Trails (Kentucky River, Benson Creek, and Elkhorn Creek), Franklin County has several opportunities to walk, hike, run, or bicycle on dedicated facilities in various parks. These trails range from riverside paved multi-use paths, to challenging natural surface hiking or mountain biking trails, to paved walking trails with a view above downtown.
Join Troy Hearn to learn how these trails are created, how they are used, how much goes into maintenance, and how you can be more involved. Sponsored by the Frankfort Audubon Society and PSPL.
Troy Hearn works with the Kentucky Department for Public Health as the βActive Livingβ program manager (9 years) within the State Physical & Nutrition (SPAN) Program. This program works statewide with communities to develop walk/bike master plans, and to help plan and design individual walk/bike facility projects of all types within these communities. Previously, Troy worked as the Bicycle and Pedestrian Program Coordinator with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) for 8 years, and in the bicycle/outdoor industry for over 25 years before starting work with the State. Troy has been involved with the creation of over 36 community master plans, several off-road trail systems (with master plans), and many more active living projects in Kentucky. Troy has also been a master trail builder for over 20 years. One of Troyβs claims to fame is being able to change a bicycle flat tire on a bicycle in well under 5 minutes. Troy graduated from the University of Kentucky, is married to his lovely wife Shelley, has three children and one granddaughter, and lives in Frankfort.
