About the event

Portage for a Purpose 5K Walk/Portage 2025
Join us for a unique, mostly uphill 5k event that carries a powerful message.

Intrepid souls walking and some carrying canoes will journey together, commemorating the last 5 kilometers of the 2021 original 313-mile portage journey made by Evan Hansen. The uphill path and burden of a canoe symbolize the burdens we all carry in life. Evan Hansen will lead the way as he portages the original Portage for a Purpose canoe during this 5k commemorative event and brings it again to rest in the Great Stone Circle on the stone known as β€œEternity” (where his original journey ended). Will you walk with him? No need to carry a canoe - unless you want to - join us on this walk to raise awareness about mental illness, especially suicide.

πŸ—“οΈ Date: Saturday, October 11th

πŸ•™ Time: 10:00am

πŸ’² Fee: $10/person (100% of this fee is donated to NAMI SE MN)

πŸ“ WALK Starting Location: Bluff Siding Road near the intersection of WI HWY 35 and County Road M, Fountain City, WI.

🏁 WALK Ending Location: Kinstone, at the Great Stone Circle's "Eternity" stone.

If you are not walking or carrying a canoe, but you wish to attend, just come directly to Kinstone!

100% of fees from participant plus 50% of ALL other admissions on this day will be donated to NAMI SE MN.

This event aims to raise awareness about suicide prevention, commemorating Evan's incredible 2021 journey. The original canoe with signatures is permanently displayed at Kinstone, serving as a reminder of those lost to suicide and the importance of community for overall well-being.

After the walk, join us for a special fire ceremony at the Stargazer Circle, where messages will be offered and, conditions permitting, ceremoniously burned.

Please bring flowers or natural offerings for the symbolic grave at the Eternity Stone. Write messages to loved ones and share stories. Refreshments will be available inside the Kinstone Visitor Center.

Don't miss Evan Hansen's book, "Into the Wind," available at the Kinstone Gift Shop.
