Award-winning, genre-bending Meanjin 8-piece TYDE launch their highly anticipated debut EP 'Red Moon' on 14th Sept at Crowbar. They have earned a reputation as one of Queensland's best live bands, honing their performance across lineups including Woodford Folk Festival, Brisbane International Jazz Festival and Bluesfets Byron Bay, and have taken out the 2025 QUBE Effect best 'Live Event' Award. 'Red Moon' is a collection of 7 entirely live-recorded songs, brandishing a rich soundscape that ebbs and flows between jazz, prog, pop, funk, and folk. With a truly genre-fluid sound, their intricate arrangements and improvisation sections create an energetic live show that has been described as a "dynamic prog odyssey". TYDE will have you both grooving to infectious hooks and trying to work out what time signature you're dancing to. Their repertoire calls to mind artists like WILLOW, The Cat Empire, COVET, Hiatus Kaiyote, Vera Blue, and Franz Ferdinand.
Supporting TYDE will be fellow QUBE Effect Finalist Tahnee Rose, and also featured on the last Woodford lineup, Rutherford Jazz Trio.
Rutherford Jazz Trio:
Rutherford Jazz Trio (RJT) is a defiant band, in many senses of the word. The fierce 5-piece Meanjin funk lineup joyfully deposits electrifying riffs and rhythms upon unsuspecting audiences, living beyond not only its nomenclature, but genre boundaries as well.
Best described, RJT is a curious late night concoction blending the enchanting groovidge of Santana, the infectious fun-loving attitude of The Cat Empire, and the face twisting bass lines found deep in the drawer of Herbie Hancock's leftover hits. Vocally, they deliver catchy melody alongside hard-hitting rap, always delivered with a wink. Playing themes of political satire and well-cooked character comedy, and all packaged with truly world class instrumentation, RJT is one to watch.
Tahnee Rose:
With her red hair and rock star flair, Tahnee is turning sad into sass, into song. Tahnee Rose reflects her country roots and soulful voice through her powerful songs. Influenced by the likes of Shania Twain, Missy Higgins and Adele; Tahnee developed a unique style of country/rock that compliments her soulful voice. Growing up in Rural NSW, Tahnee started learning guitar from an early age to accompany her singing. After many nights of sitting in her bedroom, the love for storytelling and expressing emotions through song writing came alive.
