July FCC: Attachment: “Durable Life” by Dick Hostetler

Introduction:

Welcome everyone. I'm Dick Hostetler. I know many of you and I’ve enjoyed your fellowship and learning about the work that you do. I want to make a presentation on Attachment & Brain Science. This should be helpful for you as you encounter clients who’ve never had genuine, secure attachment. They may likely be stuck with an addiction or behavior they have not been able to change no matter how hard they've tried. My heart is that you’ll find some wisdom you can apply in your practice and in your personal relationships.

I’ve learned about attachment by ministering to severely traumatized individuals. My own attachment style was very dismissive, so there has been a drastic, significant leap from where I started then and where I stand today. I didn’t know how to do attachment. I didn’t know how to join people so they felt safe and secure enough to begin their difficult and arduous journey. The learning curve has been amazing. I’ll share some principles that will make sense and you will be able to use. I’ll also share some things that will challenge you as you learn.
