2026 Lenten Preaching Workshop

The hymn "O Love, How Deep" (LSB 544) draws us into the heart of the Gospel: Christ came for us. Originating as a fifteenth-century poem of the devotio moderna, later translated as our hymn, it traces Christ's life from birth to resurrection. The phrase pro nobis—"for us"—echoes the Nicene Creed and the theology of the Reformation, reminding us that God gave His Son not in theory but in reality, for our salvation. This hymn confesses Christ's work as Savior who became one of us, for us, so that we might share His life. This sermon series draws from the Scriptures and from the hymn to confess this wondrous reality.
