On the evening of All Souls’ Day, St. Bartholomew invites you into a sacred moment of remembrance and hope. Gather with us in the garden, where the soft glow of candlelight will surround the firepit and illuminate a space made holy as the resting place of many who have gone before us.
This service of evening prayer will offer time to name aloud those dear to us who now rest in God’s care. Each name, written on a slip of paper, will be read in community and then consigned to the fire—its smoke and ashes rising heavenward, a symbol of love that endures beyond death. As the Preface of the Commemoration reminds us, “For to your faithful people, O Lord, life is changed, not ended; and when our mortal body lies in death, there is prepared for us a dwelling place eternal in the heavens.”
In the quiet reverence of the garden, surrounded by the memory of those whose ashes rest here, we will entrust our prayers to God. The flicker of flame, the lifting of names, and the stillness of the evening will bear witness to the promise that death does not have the final word. Rather, in Christ, life is transformed into everlasting peace.
All are welcome to join this poignant and prayerful commemoration as together we honor the faithful departed and entrust them once more to the eternal love of God.
This event is open to anyone and everyone no matter where you are on your journey of faith.
