About this Event

You're Invited to Join the Buzz - over the County!

The Great Florida Pollinator Census (sponsored by UF/IFAS Extension) joins The Great Southeast Pollinator Census organized by the Unversity of Georgia. This Citizen Science project allows people of all ages and sizes to participate in science to protect our pollinators one count at a time!

Featured Locations, Master Gardeners are present to walk you through the census:

Friday, August 22, 1:00pm - 4:00pm

  • Cape Coral History Museum, 544 Cultural Park Blvd, Cape Coral, FL.

Saturday, August 23, 8:30am - 1:00pm

  • Triangle Park, Dean Park Historic District, 2685 Rhode Island Ave, Ft. Myers, FL.
  • Berne Davis Botanical Garden, 2166 Virginia Ave, Ft. Myers, FL.
  • Rotary Park Environmental Center, 5505 Rose Garden Rd, Cape Coral, FL.

Or any local park - anywhere with flowers!

We’d love for you to join us for a fun and easy way to help the environment by counting our Florida pollinators — and it only takes 15 minutes!

All you have to do is head over to any of the parks listed above, find a flowering plant, and watch for pollinators (like bees, butterflies, and beetles). Use our simple pollinator guide and count sheet to jot down what you see — then send in your results to be part of the official census!

Why does this matter?

  • It helps build better habitats for pollinators
  • It teaches people of all ages just how important insects are
  • And it gives us valuable data for pollinator research

This is a great activity for families, classrooms, garden clubs — anyone who enjoys being outside and making a difference.

Ready to join the count? We’ll give you everything you need to get started:

  • A
  • Easy-to-use
  • Instructions to submit your findings to the official Pollinator Census Database
  • Here is the how to video: How to Count Pollinators for the Pollinator Census

Let’s work together to protect our pollinators, one count at a time.
