Presentation Title: Rise Above the Stress: Building Personal Resilience in Construction

Every role in the construction industry comes with pressure. Architects juggle design expectations, engineers solve technical challenges, contractors manage unpredictable job sites, and students prepare to enter a demanding field. Regardless of where you sit in the process, the reality is the same: stress is part of the work.

This workshop is about strengthening your personal resilience so you can meet those pressures with more clarity and confidence. We’ll explore the two primary kinds of stress that affect us as professionals:

  • Industry-driven stress: The external demands of complex projects—tight budgets, shifting requirements, demanding schedules. While we may not eliminate them, we can learn to anticipate and respond more effectively.
  • Self-imposed stress: The internal weight we carry from fear of failure, perfectionism, or imposter syndrome. By recognizing and reducing these self-created pressures, we create the space to thrive, not just survive, in our roles.

Drawing from my 25+ years in the construction industry, I’ll share real-world examples and practical tools that can help you reduce stress, boost resilience, and perform at your best—whether you’re leading a project, supporting a team, or preparing for your first professional role.

In this workshop, participants will:

  • Understand how fear and stress show up for individuals in construction.
  • Learn to distinguish between industry-driven pressures and self-imposed pressures.
  • Gain practical strategies to reduce self-imposed stress and increase resilience.
  • Walk away with techniques to stay grounded and effective in high-pressure environments.
