Making the Animal Protein System More Resilient

Today’s defining challenge for the animal protein system (APS) is to continue providing affordable and nourishing protein sources for the world, while addressing disease outbreaks, supply chain disruptions, and major resource constraints: land, labor, water, climate, and other environmental concerns, including biodiversity and soil health. However, the APS is composed of complex food supply chains and well intentioned interventions can have unintended consequences. We have developed novel approaches to modeling actions intended to build system resilience. In this interactive session, attendees will provide feedback on scale-appropriate interventions that our modeling shows will build resilience in various APS components: beef, eggs, and row crops.
