Led by local historian Norman Atkinson, this walk will look at the burgh around the late 18th century in the time of 2 giants of Scotland’s history, who lived and worked in Forfar at the time – John Jamieson, author of the Scottish Dictionary and George Don, the discoverer of many new plants and sometime Curator of the Royal Botanic Garden in Leith.
The walk will commence at the Forfar Botanists Garden, Myre Road, Forfar, DD8 1AZ, which is situated beside the Myre Car Park, on Sunday 14 September at 2pm.
The route will include Jamieson’s manse and the Seceder Meeting House in which he preached, as well as the site of Don’s botanic garden and his memorial in the parish kirkyard. Please allow 1 ½ to 2 hours for the walk.
