Hibotep ( SOMALIA) is a sonic warrior, genre-shapeshifter, and force of nature who defies every mold. Based between Kampala and the cosmos, she channels chaos into power, building hypnotic worlds where techno, grime, gqom, hip hop, industrial, and experimental frequencies collide with East African energy and deep ancestral resonance. Of Somali origin, DJ, producer, filmmaker, and fashion alchemist, Hibotep isn’t just multidisciplinary—she’s multidimensional. Whether performing at CTM, Dekmantel, Sonar or Nyege Nyege, her sets are wild rides through time and space: unpredictable, emotionally charged, and spiritually grounded.
Fresh Nunas (MOZAMBIQUE) will be presenting his favorite records from his private collection
OTIM ALPHA (UGANDA)
Traditional adungu and nanga harp master and singer, Otim Alpha got his musical start as a wedding ceremony leader in his native Gulu City and is one of the few musicians to pass down and preserve Acholi folk traditions. He’s also globally known for pioneering a hyper energetic electronic music genre from Northern Uganda commonly known as Acholitronix and the first artist of the Nyege Nyege roster to start touring internationally.
MC YALLAH
Kenyan by heritage but born and raised in Kampala, MC Yallah is a powerhouse in the hip-hop scene with nearly two decades of experience. A core member of the influential Nyege Nyege crew, the remarkable rapper blends conscious and futuristic hip-hop, grime, punk, and trap, creating a distinctive sound all her own. Known for her rapid, tightly controlled flow, she delivers her lyrics in multiple languages, including Kiswahili, Luganda, English, and Luo. Fierce and intense, her lyrics draw from personal experiences, often addressing women’s issues while spreading powerful messages of integrity and self-determination.
DIAKI (Mali)
Nyege Nyege legend DJ Diaki’s hard thumping live electro balani show is the quintessential African rave sound, the one that can wake even the dead, drawing comparisons to shangaan, singeli and acholitronix as well as drum n bass and footwork. DJ Diaki’s style of balani show is a live performance on laptop, mic and drum machines. With influences of coupe decale and soukous, Diaki delivers an atomic blend of traditional balani electrified with all the West African candence! Diaki has perfected his craft over the last 30 years, and risen to fame after his Boiler room set at Nyege Nyege festival 2019 where legendary DJ Marcelle called him “The discovery of the Century”.
BINGHI
Rwandese producer, DJ and performance artist Binghi brings flair and surprise to each of her sets, known to play all night sessions in Kampala or Kigali, her sound blends contemporary African electronica with UK influences, Caribbean hybrids and earlier US house and techno, connecting dots across time and space to always underlie the urgency in ecstasy. Played everywhere from Berlin to Kampala.
Authentically Plastic (UG)
As a DJ, Producer & Artist from Kampala, Uganda, Authentically Plastic’s sound is
necessarily political. Between 2018-2023, they ran a roving, riotous, club night called
ANTI-MASS; which opened up space for femme & queer artists in Uganda’s increasing-ly repressive social climate.Risk-taking in this political environment has shaped Authentically Plastic’s sound, which has an accelerated, densely layered, improvisational feel. Their fiery debut album, Raw Space, was released in September 2022, receiving critical acclaim for its fresh urgency and prismatic unpredictability.
NSASI
Nsasi is a fearless sound sculptor, core member of the Nyege Nyege collective, and a founding member of the radical ANTI-MASS collective alongside Authentically Plastic and Turkana. Known for their high-intensity DJ sets that blend hard drum, Singeli, gqom, electro, and experimental club textures, Nsasi creates relentless, addictive dancefloor pressure that often pushes 160 BPM and beyond. With fearless mixing and an unpredictable approach to rhythm, they turn every set into a live journey, navigating through radically different tempos and genres, from skittered acid to pulsating percussion.
