mariana carvalho (br)

Marjolein Guldentops:
Timely Mannerism is a spoken score for a body moving through time. It traces the perception of time through voice and sound, layering loops, spoken fragments, and field recordings of signals that mark its passing.
Marjolein Guldentops is a Brussels-based visual artist and performer whose work focuses on language. She approaches language as both material and structure: a dynamic system that we inhabit, shape and are continually shaped by. Embracing its ambiguity and transformative potential, she regards words as collaborators rather than instruments in her creative process. Her work explores how linguistic frameworks influence our perception of space, time, identity and interpersonal relationships, often unfolding through urban exploration, vocal expression and alternative modes of communication. Through transposition, she enables a single text to migrate and re-emerge in various forms, including performance, sound, publication, and drawing. Through an interplay of typographic and lyrical elements, she creates spatial compositions that unfold at the intersection of reading, listening, and physical presence.
collaboration is a big part of her work, most lately happening in the fields of performative arts and dance.
