Celebration of the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels

Following a family-friendly prayer service where we’ll hear the story of St. Michael, join the fun with a dragon piñata, inflatable swords and shields and other dragon themed activities. We'll also have an eco-printing/natural dye craft and Ember day letter writing activity for the older among us. Enjoy a simple dinner of Pot Roast with Root Vegetables and Blackberry Devil’s Food Shortcake to close out the event. Root Vegetables cooked separately available for those who do not eat meat and gluten-dairy free berries and cream.

Michaelmas (pronounced Mi-kel-miss) was originally a Christian festival in Western Europe during the Middle Ages. It is the feast day of the archangel St. Michael and is celebrated at the end of September. Because Michaelmas falls near the equinox, it is commonly associated with the beginning of autumn marking the end of the harvest season and the shortening of days.

Did you know there is a legend that says when St. Michael threw Satan out of Heaven, as described in Revelation 12, the devil landed on a blackberry bush, which he then spit on and cursed? Therefore, blackberries are to be picked and eaten by Michaelmas, or before the devil gets a chance to spit on them.
