Led by our guest speaker, Gina Anderson of Purdue Extension, alongside the Sunnyside Master Gardeners, this workshop will guide participants through the essential steps of starting a successful vegetable garden. Topics include choosing the right location for planting, selecting vegetables well-suited to your space and goals, and learning the basics of seed starting. Participants will also take part in a hands-on seed-starting demonstration and receive a seed-starting kit to take home.
Anderson holds a B.S. in Horticulture Production and Marketing from Purdue University and an M.S. in Agricultural Education from North Carolina A&T State University. She has served with Purdue Extension since 2013 and works extensively in Master Gardener and Master Naturalist training, vegetable gardening, beekeeping, community garden planning, and land use and zoning education.
Launched in 2018 by the Conventual Franciscan Friars of the Province of Our Lady of Consolation, the Franciscan Earth Care Initiative celebrates the Franciscan tradition of honoring creation and caring for our common home. Through programs such as Greening the Mount at Mount St. Francis, the Initiative promotes environmental stewardship and sustainability in daily life, fostering projects and partnerships with impact both locally and globally.
This workshop is ideal for beginners and anyone looking to deepen their connection to the land through thoughtful, sustainable gardening practices.
