On Saturday, October 18th, join AMIS friends for a trip south of the city to High Falls State Park to hike! We will leave Atlanta mid-morning, hike two trails at the park, eat our own packed lunches in a picnic area of the park, then head back to Atlanta in the early afternoon. We will see the highest waterfall in Georgia south of Atlanta, as well as explore some historic structures at High Falls State Park.
Those needing transportation will meet at Midtown MARTA station at 9 AM. Those arranging their own transportation should meet at High Falls State Park at 10 AM. We will depart the park by 2 PM and should arrive back to Atlanta by 3 PM.
Be sure to get the correct type of ticket! The tickets for students who need a ride will be released in batches as I confirm drivers. If none are available, please check back later.
Location: High Falls State Park (Jackson, GA--south of the city, about a 50 minute drive on a Saturday morning from Midtown)
Website:
https://gastateparks.org/HighFalls
Parking: $5 fee per vehicle (since it's a state park). We will reimburse this fee for drivers who are willing to take at least two students.
What we'll do: We will hike two trails (0.5 mi and 1.5 mi). We'll start with the 0.5 mile paved Historic Trail, taking a look at historic structures and catching a glimpse of the falls. We'll then proceed to the 1.5 mile double loop Falls View Trail, along the side of the waterfall and river. This goes through a rocky forest and has boulders throughout the trail. After we complete that looped trail, we'll head to one of the picnic areas nearby to eat lunch.
Lunch: Pack your own lunch and water bottle.
