Greetings, Bonny Doon Ecological Reserve Volunteers!
Our next trail workday is Sunday, October 19 from 9 to 11am
Dry weather for our September workday meant we could focus mainly on pruning manzanita on the Ponderosa cutoff, as well as clearing other vegetation away from the trail. Thanks to those who showed up to help.
In October, we will continue trail clearing and widening along the Ponderosa Cutoff. If the weather is dry, we can continue work on pruning manzanita. Some sections of the Cutoff are getting quite overgrown, and poison oak is a problem in some areas. If there is anyone who is comfortable dealing with poison oak, we hope you can join us.
Razor-sharp tools are essential for this work, so hone your best pruners and loppers and bring them along. Handsaws are helpful for larger branches. We recommend wearing layers, sun protection and sturdy gloves. If you need to borrow tools, let us know and we will bring extras.
Meet at the picnic table near the BDER parking lot by the Martin Road Firehouse.
Looking forward to seeing you in October,
Roxy Lo and Pam Newbury
