About the event

Faversham 13.5 mile walk
We last did this circuit in November 2023, it is a good one, so why not lace up the boots and join us and explore the open expanse of the Swale Estuary on this 13.5 mile walk. There is minimal ascent, but we will walk at a good pace and the fun all starts from the ancient market town of Faversham.

Leaving our start point at Faversham Railway Station, we walk through the old streets of the town, passing an array of historic buildings, before reaching Oare to walk beside Oare Creek, along the Saxon Shore Way.

Continuing on our way, we pass moored up boats that line the opposite side of the creek, then the view changes when we turn westwards at the mouth of the creek, where the ribs of long-abandoned vessels lie on the mudflats. Along the way there will be views of the Kingsferry Bridge in the distance, and in the estuary the small Fowey Island can be seen, whilst we also pass the site of a former gun powder factory.

We turn inland to reach Conyer, where the Ship Inn (now re-open) stands by the creek, at which point, it is therefore most likely that the walk leader could be persuaded to stop for a drink!. The landscape is now quite different as we utilise tracks and quiet country lanes, with the circuit taking us through Teynham Street, Deerton Street & the forgotten village of Luddenham, which is really only a little-used farmyard now.

On reaching Oare once more, we finish off with a return back to Faversham, along this pretty flat route, where there is a plethora of pubs to choose from, for the obligatory post-walk social.

There will of course be the usually lunch/snack break en route a suitable resting point, conditions underfoot could be muddy in places if Autumn has been wet.

Dogs welcome but on short lead when required
