Come and join Meon Trails on this walk from Portchester Castle to the Horse and Jockey Pub in Worlds’ End. This route is the first 10 miles of the Allan King Way and will be the first of a series of four walks which will eventually complete the entire 42 mile route.
This first walk starts next to historic Portchester Castle on the shore of Portsmouth Harbour and meanders through leafy lanes, open fields, and tranquil woodland paths. The scenery changes dramatically from the shoreline as you head inland and up towards Fort Nelson. We will stop here at the halfway mark for a breather and there is a café and toilets in the museum.
From there, we continue north on the Allan King Way to the hamlet of Boarhunt. Here we will pass the incredible yew tree in the churchyard which is one of the oldest recorded trees in England at approximately 1000 years old. From Boarhunt we are now deep in the countryside and we pass near to Southwick and keep heading north towards our finishing point at the Horse and Jockey.
This walk is very varied, with woods, lanes, open fields and spectacular views. It will be dog friendly although there may be livestock in some of the fields. This is a one way walk with different start and finish points. Parking will be available both at the start and the finish. If you are able to car share that will make things easier. Further details of the arrangements will be sent via e-mail when you book onto the walk.
The start will be in the Car Park next to Portchester Castle, Church Lane, Portchester, PO16 9QW. Car park costs £1.10 per hour.
The finish is the Horse and Jockey pub, Fareham Road, Hipley, PO7 4QY.
The walk is £10 per person. We look forward to welcoming you on our first episode of what should be an epic Allan King Way journey.
