Join Jessica for a peaceful morning of nature journaling at Yankauer Nature Preserve! Everyone is welcome—whether you’re new to nature journaling or have kept journals for years.
Nature journaling is a practice of recording your observations, thoughts, and questions about the natural world through a mix of drawing, writing, and even numbers. It encourages you to use all your senses—seeing patterns you hadn’t noticed before, hearing new sounds, feeling the breeze or bark textures, and smelling the scent of nearby plants. By slowing down and tuning in, we begin to deepen our awareness and connection to the environment around us.
September is a beautiful time to visit Yankauer Nature Preserve, a 104-acre forested landscape in Berkeley County, WV. Once historic farmland, the preserve now features shaded cedar groves, trails lined with pawpaw and spicebush, and an overlook of the Potomac River—making it an inspiring setting for reflection and creative journaling.
We’ll begin at the shaded pavilion with a short introduction, then head out onto the trails to explore and observe at your own pace. Afterward, we’ll gather again at the pavilion to add detail to our work, share techniques, and discuss ideas to inspire our journaling practice.
