Come and learn about why mushrooms are a climate friendly food, and how to grow your own!
Join mycologist, Marco Tenconi for a two-hour workshop that will introduce you to the different ways we can work with fungal allies to build resilience.
Exploring the potential of a ‘radical mycology’ we will consider how mushrooms can help us transform our food system from one that is based on total exploitation of land and labour to one that strengthens and nurtures our communities.
The workshop will include presentation, conversation and two practical exercises: making oyster mushroom grow kits to take home, and making candle holders out of mycelium.
If possible we would like to use recycled materials for the grow kits. If you can, please bring along a container for your kit. This should be:
- Between 2 and 5 litres in volume
- Have a lid of some kind
- Be thoroughly cleaned
- Be food safe, e.g. large ice cream tubs, small buckets with lids, large coke bottles etc.

Rhyze is a community mushroom farm and education project based in Edinburgh. We grow Oyster and Lion's Mane mushrooms from local business waste, we run workshops and classes spreading mushroom cultivation skills and we carry out research and engagement projects to further grassroots mycology.
