Confluence Learning Lab

Join us for a FREE hands-on workshop for ages 8+! Explore the fascinating world of fishing at the Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence. Learn about the history and biology of local fish species, including the mighty paddlefish. Try your luck catching a (stuffed) paddlefish and discover how people catch the real thing today! Then, dive into our creative biology activity where you’ll design your own fish out of air-dry clay. Choose special features that help it survive—big fins, sharp teeth, camouflage coloring—and learn how real fish adapt to their environments in similar ways. It’s a fun and engaging way to connect science, history, and creativity in one unique experience!

Step back in time and discover how the earliest peoples of the Confluence region lived, hunted, and thrived in this hands-on educational experience for all ages. Explore authentic and replica artifacts, learn how stone tools were made, and get a feel for life on the Northern Plains before written history. Then, head outside to test your skills with real atlatls, the ancient spear-throwing tools used by Indigenous peoples for thousands of years!
