“The Rink” is a documentary that explores the culture, passion and generational influence of urban roller skating in St. Louis.
Join us for an afternoon watch party presented by Ron "G. Wiz" Butts. G. Wiz is one of the most respected DJ's in St. Louis, Missouri, who's career has spanned over 4 decades. Specializing in multiple genres of music from the 1960's, through 2000. His 2nd documentary "Background Check" was awarded the American Association of State & Local History Award for the state of Missouri. "Background Check" watch party will be held November 8th at 2PM.
"The Rink” is a powerful and nostalgic journey that captures part of an untold history of urban roller skating in St. Louis, MO and East St. Louis, IL. More than just a recreational space, the roller rink has long served as a sanctuary—a place of rhythm, resistance, and resilience. Through the stories of generational skaters, DJs, rink owners and archival footage, this documentary explores how the rink shaped generations, nurtured musical movements, and became pillars of joy, creativity, and identity or simply put “a way of life”.
“The Rink” is a moving tribute to the people who keep the wheels turning and the soul of the rink alive.
