Get hands-on experience to tackle invasive plants! Join the city's Stewardship Coordinator for a free basic training to learn how to identify, monitor, and remove non-native, invasive plants commonly found in our backyards and parks.
This workshop is in-person and will take place at the Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center (3740 Blenheim Blvd) with a field session in nearby Van Dyck Park.
Attendees should dress appropriately for the outdoors. A waiver will be provided for anyone interested in participating in the field session (using tools, going off trail).
Attendees who complete this training have the option to apply to become a Certified Forest Rescuer with additional completion of 4 volunteer hours. Once certified, Forest Rescuers are permitted to work independently in city parks to remove invasive plants in partnership with the city's urban forestry staff.
Fairfax City Forest Rescues is a city-wide program developed to maintain the health of Fairfax’s urban forest. Learn more by visiting fairfaxva.gov/trees.
