Last Summer FSAF added a Chamber Choir to our summer offerings and we already have a core group ready to go with this, so we are planning to do some Holiday Caroling in downtown Fairbanks together! We are opening this up to other singers in the community, so feel free to join us or invite others who sing -- and let's make it a fun time to sing together. This is not a group for "non-singers" you need to be able to hold your own within a group -- we will be singing in four part harmony although nothing too fancy that would require a longer rehearsal than what is planned. Singing melody is also fine for intermediate level singers who do not read music.
We gather together at the FSAF office for a rehearsal of Carols and Holiday music from 1-3 pm on Sunday, December 21. Some that are very well know and standard carols, easy reads, and a couple others that might take a bit of rehearsal work (but are beautiful and worth the time to rehearse a bit -- think Ukrainian Bell Carol, Bleak Midwinter, Coventry Carol, etc). I am also happy to consider requests if you have favorites and want to send me titles ahead of time. I'll also send music ahead of time for anyone who requests it so you can potentially learn/look ahead at if you are so inclined. I know there are some strong readers/musicians out there!
We then take a walk to McCafferty's Coffee House (open Sundays until 4) to start our caroling and get a hot beverage for the caroling walk (or the drive if you are needing to caravan that way) and of course, sing there for crew and patrons a bit. We would then do a downtown caroling tour of businesses from 4-6pm. FSAF has contacted several businesses already and they are thrilled to have some singers come visit them with some music. We have about six stops already from Morris Thompson Cultural Center to McCaffertys -- all walkable in that distance (or drivable if need be).
We would be finished singing at 6 pm and folks could stick around and have some social time and beverages together or head to dinner or just head home after as you wish!
