Page of Plymouth Introductory online talk: Ben Jonson & Thomas Dekker's lost play

Page of Plymouth, an exciting new city-wide project, takes its name from a lost play by Ben Jonson and Thomas Dekker. The play was performed at The Rose Playhouse in 1599 and centres on a notorious murder that took place in Plymouth in 1590. The project looks at theatre, popular culture, and narratives of ordinary lives in Plymouth then and now.

The first of five online talks presented by Literature Works in conjunction with The Rose Playhouse, this will be the perfect introduction to our recently announced Page of Plymouth project, made possible by a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The talk will be presented by Producer and Dramaturg, David Prescott, alongside CEO of Literature Works, Helen Chaloner. It will include readings from the contemporary pamphlets about the murder and from Thomas Deloney’s ‘Execution Ballads’ about the crime, alongside examples of Jonson’s poetry.
