About the event

Exploring the Hawthorns Area
Midpen guided activities are led by trained volunteer docent naturalists. All are welcome.

About this Event

Enjoy a leisurely-paced walk with Docent Naturalists Olga and Tony Bright to explore the cultural and natural history of the Hawthorns Area, a limited access location that is not contiguous to the rest of Windy Hill Preserve. You’ll be guided through grasslands, oak-dotted hills, and an olive orchard. Your route will travel along a stream and past structures built in the late 1880’s, inviting you draw on your imagination to examine the life and times of the Estate and its original owners. Your outing will also provide sweeping views of the Santa Cruz Mountains, East Bay hills, and San Francisco Bay (weather permitting). (Note: Directions will be sent after reservations close. A docent will meet you at the gate and direct you to parking area. Some sections of the walk are on unimproved trails.) Reservations are required and will be accepted on or after February 21 at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) and close March 6 at 2:00 p.m.
