About the event

51st State? Climate Action Without Representation
Join Climate Classes and Citizens Climate Lobby for a panel discussion about how Home Rule affects DC’s ability to plan for climate change.

About this Event

DC’s limited self-governance has wide-ranging, unjust consequences. In recent weeks, we have seen a federal takeover of the police, and, earlier this year, Congress slashed our budget by over $1 billion. This event will discuss what home rule means for local climate action, and why statehood also matters for a more sustainable, healthier future.

We will hear from three champions for climate action and environmental justice in DC:

  • Brenda Richardson, Coordinator at the Anacostia Parks & Community Collaborative (APACC)
  • Jamoni Overby, DC Conservation Advocate at Nature Forward
  • Annette Olson, Executive Director at Climate Steps

Join Climate Classes DC and the DC chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby to learn about the current state of climate action and home rule, and what is at stake.
