Glencanisp Open Day - Fri 20th Mar from 12noon
There's been lots going on behind the scenes at Glencanisp and now it's your chance to find out about plans for Glencanisp Lodge and wider Estate.
Representatives from The Assynt Foundation, Woodland Trust Scotland and Lodge will be present at our open day for you to speak to. There will be information on our future plans and opportunities for you to help shape our vision.
We'll have a variety of stalls and activities from 12-6pm plus free food and hot drinks. This will be followed by storytelling by the fire and an informal Ceilidh until 9pm - feel free to bring an instrument and join in.
- Free food and drink from the Crofter's Kitchen
- Axe throwing on the lawn with Wooden Tom. Tom will be here from 12-6 teaching the ancient art of axe throwing. Minimum age 12yrs. Under 16's to be accompanied by an adult.
- Spinning demonstration. Have a go at spinning wool with local spinner and knitter Jorine van Delft.
- Cruciferous Croft - an opportunity to sample and buy Barbara's delicious high quality homemade sauerkraut made with locally grown ingredients.
- Croft Woodland advice - Rory Finlay from the Woodland Trust is here to answer your questions on how crofters, smallholders and common grazings can create and manage woodlands that will flourish.
- Birch sap taster, 1-1.30 - Meet at the pole barn from where Chris will take you onto the Nature Trail to see and taste fresh sap from the tree.
- Dubh Clais guided walk, 2-4pm - with North West Highlands Geopark and Historic Assynt - learn about the people who used to live here and the clearance of this village over 200 years ago. Places are limited please book here through Eventbrite:

- Storytelling, 6-7pm - gather round the fire for some stories from local storyteller Greg Allen
- Music and Ceilidh, 7-9pm - gather in the Pole Barn and get your dancing shoes on for some music by local musicians and an informal ceilidh.
