On October 4, in conjunction with the Redwood Coast Music Festival, the Folklife Society will be presenting two guitar master classes. Students should provide their own note taking implements. All levels welcome.

Redd Volkaert is considered a true giant of country music and the Telecaster guitar. Redd is a Grammy-winner and a guitar-playing legend who is renowned throughout the country music world and beyond. Volkaert played in Merle Haggard’s backing band The Strangers in the spot previously staffed by Roy Nichols. In addition, he has recorded and performed with a who’s who of country music stars such as George Jones, Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley, Dwight Yoakam, Buck Owens, Alison Krauss, Rhonda Vincent, and many more. He will be touching on how to hold your space in a band, how to fill between the singing lines in the band, a bit on etiquette as far as dividing up the fills on the solos in a band setting. Some old-school country stuff, and a bit of western swing, chords and lead.

Duke Robillard is a celebrated American guitarist, singer, songwriter, and bandleader known for his mastery of blues, jump R&B, swing, and roots rock.
In 1967, Robillard co-founded Roomful of Blues. Throughout his career, Robillard has received numerous accolades, including multiple W.C. Handy Awards for Best Blues Guitarist and Grammy nominations for Best Traditional Blues Album. His work spans various styles, from traditional blues to jazz and swing, earning him a reputation as a "guitarist's guitarist". Tommy Harkenrider will be joining him and moderate the session.
*Classes will be $20 public, $15 for Folklife members or ticket holders for Redwood Coast Music Festival (price per class)
*Classes will take place at the Club House in the Inn at 2nd and C between 11:15am and 2:30pm. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to class start time.
*Classes will be limited to 25 students, so prior registration is highly recommended.
