The Nettles will play a contra dance in Eugene next Saturday, December 13th, at 7pm with Koren Wake calling. Originally from New England, she has shared stages with some of the hottest bands in the Pacific Northwest. Koren combines exquisite dance selection with clear, accessible teaching to bring dancers of all skill levels together on the floor.
Welcome our new drummer, Andy Weiss ("weess")!
And we hear there will be cocoa and cookies...
Edison Elementary, 1328 E 22nd Ave, Eugene.
Come to a contra dance! A lesson at 7pm will teach you all you need to know to have fun for the next two hours with friends old and new. Beginners are always welcome, even if you don’t make it to the instruction session. We draw dancers from every age and ability from teens to retirees; from “first dance ever” to “been a dancer for decades.” Each dance set starts with a “walk through” to teach the dance sequence and moves, and the dance is called during the dance. Each set lasts about 15 minutes including the walk-through.
Following the lesson will be dancing from 7:30 PM to 10 PM. No partner necessary. Dance calling and role terms will be Larks & Robins. The cost is $12 – $20 sliding scale. $2 discount for current EFS members, College students: $8, Youth under 18 and children with an adult are always free. MASKS ARE OPTIONAL - NOT REQUIRED.
We suggest that dancers wear “cool, comfortable, casual clothes.” “Swirly” skirts are common, as are shorts, kilts, and dresses (contra is aerobic!). Many people bring extra changes of clothes in order to manage the aerobic “experience.” We suggest flat shoes with clean soft non-marking soles. Tennis or gym shoes are usually fine. Jazz-style dance shoes are recommended. Please refrain from wearing fragrances, perfumes, and colognes. Some of our dancers have chemical sensitivities.
We're gonna have a ball! Hope to see you there.
Love,
The Nettles
