Talking Pictures: A Conversation with Christopher Rauschenberg and Thom Sempere

In conjunction with the exhibition Gathering: A Photographer’s Collection, artist and collector Christopher Rauschenberg will join in conversation with Thom Sempere, JSMA Associate Curator of Photography, to reflect on the art of collecting and the stories behind the photographs on view. Gathering features more than 70 works selected from Rauschenberg’s archive of over 5,000 images collected across five decades. These photographs—spanning domestic life, public protest, quiet reflection, and communal celebration—offer a compelling exploration of the human condition. Rauschenberg is cofounder and president of Blue Sky Gallery in Portland, Oregon, where he has co-organized more than 1,000 exhibitions. His own work has been presented in over 100 solo shows worldwide and is represented in major museum collections.
