microphilharmonic - Harmoniemusik
Sat Oct 25, 7:30 pm & Sun Oct 26, 3 pm
The Shedd Institute in Eugene
Michael Anderson and microphilharmonic open the 2025-26 season with a return to a musical form they’ve explored several times over the past decade: Harmoniemusik is a style of music written for a wind ensemble, called a Harmonie, an ensemble form which was popular from the 1760s through 1830s—typically consisting of two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, two horns and, on occasion, a contrabass—which provided light entertainment for parties and outdoor events. The greatest composers of the time, including Mozart, Beethoven and Haydn, wrote wonderful music for Harmonie. Our program tonight includes Haydn’s Divertimento in E-flat Major, Beethoven’s Rondino in E flat Major, Mozart’s Serenade in C Minor and several Mozart overtures and arias arranged for Harmonie from The Marriage of Figaro (1786), Don Giovani (1787), Così Fan Tutte (1790), and The Magic Flute (1791).
