As Plowboy Produce Auction is a hub of the Swartzentruber Amish community (about 550 people) in Ethridge, Tennessee, it’s where the Amish farmers haul their horse-drawn harvests for sale each week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) from March through October. But, come the second Saturday in October each year, Plowboy opens its doors for a massive consignment sale. “We never know what’s going to turn up for the auction – from chickens to tractors, antiques to farm implements,” says Susan Ayers Kelley, owner of Plowboy Produce Auction. She says that the one-day sale averages $250,000 annually.
It’s the largest event of the year for Lawrence County, drawing more than 3,000 people annually from around the country.
Consignors are invited to bring their wares for sale to the barn 10/8-10/2025, 7 am-7 pm. Attendees can register for their auction number starting on Friday 7 am-7 pm and on Saturday at 6 am. There will be eight auctioneers taking bids starting at 9 am on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
Officials report that hotels and campgrounds within a 40-50 mile radius sell out with 6-8 months' advance reservations. So, Ayers says that campers are welcome to stay overnight on-site, but there are no electricity or water hook-ups.
