Course Description:
Attendees will learn foundational color theory principles and practical color mixing strategies using a limited palette of acrylic paint. Through guided demonstrations and structured mixing exercises, students will explore how to create clean secondary and tertiary colors, mix vibrant hues, and color match an observed scene in-studio.
Participants will complete a series of mixing charts and applied studies designed to strengthen color recognition, improve accuracy in matching observed color, and build confidence in paint handling.
No painting experience is required. This workshop is ideal for beginning artists seeking a strong technical foundation and will also benefit more advanced painters who want greater control and intentionality in their color mixing process.
All necessary supplies will be provided. Students may bring their own supplies if they wish, but this is not necessary.

About the Instructor:
Alison Stinely was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania. She received her BFA from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and her MFA from Indiana University, Bloomington. She is an adjunct instructor of art and design and and founder of Foundation Art Academy in Erie, PA. Alison’s work has been in many juried and invitational exhibits nationally. She has received many awards and honors and is a two time winner of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant. Her solo exhibition “Nocturnal Emissions” was featured on Hi- Fructose.com and her work “Rib Meat” was featured in Juxtapoz Magazine. Alison’s work has recently been showcased in solo exhibitions at Ghost Gallery in Brooklyn, New York as well as “Gilded Splinters” at Linda Matney Gallery in Williamsburg, Virginia. Her work is in many private collections both domestically and abroad.
