Mitch Weiss, a Boston/Putney, VT based, large-format photographer, is CHSP's August Artist-in-Residence and will be on-site August 9-30. We invite you on August 30th to meet Mitch, see his work on view in our gallery and learn more about his art practice.
About his Residency at CHSP: In August at The Park Mitch will be employing the use of 4x5, 8x10, 12x20 and 20x24 inch view cameras to harness perspective control, subtle tonal variation and ultra fine details. His masterful balance of light, shadow and compostion brings a striking presence to his subjects. Throughout his residency, Weiss will explore the connection between Stromeyer's monumental sculptures and the Park's natural environment through his distinctive photographic lens. Visitors can engage with his creative process through discussions and presentations that reveal his approach to capturing large-scale works within natural settings.
About Mitch Weiss: Mitch Weiss is a photographer and instructor based at the foothills of the Green Mountains in Vermont, USA. With two decades of professional experience, sparked as a kid with a consumer Ninja Turtle polaroid camera, Weiss now specializes in large and ultra large format analog film photography (4x5 — 20”x24”) with a focus on traditional darkroom printing. His selenium toned gelatin silver fiber photographs are collected amongst fine private collections, both at home and abroad. His 8x10 automotive and portrait work began on commission by connoisseurs who sought the grandeur and qualities of a large negative when artfully memorializing their rare automobiles and loved ones.
