The region's longest active creative ensemble, UnityGroup, performs a concert of world music this Saturday, featuring original members Rob Weinberger and Harris Thor, and gifted musicians Rob Lipari, Chris Carlsen, and Bruce Wallace completing the group. UG plays music of spirit and celebration, using melodies and rhythms from West Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and other regions, using authentic instruments, together with saxes, guitar, drums, bass, and keys, for an original, dynamic presentation. The band is completing it's latest cd at this time, and will feature these newer compositions, as well as selections from the past 30 years.
Of course, Glendale Park and MITG offers EZ parking, shaded listening, voluntary donations to help pay the musicians. Once again, we thank the Town of Union, our partner andUCF grant provider, Broome County Arts Council, our sponsors, Visions, Nick's, the Kitchen Counter, Music City, Discount Auto, and New Generation Hair Salon, for their dedication and support this season. We thank all who contributed to and attended the shows. This has always been a creative community concert series for the community, hopefully to offer both players and listeners the chance to experience the more unusual, creative, and original acts from the region.
