NCSO Romantic Reflections March 8

Howard Hanson’s Romantic Symphony is a sweeping and deeply expressive American symphony that is performed far less often than it deserves. Rich melody and glowing orchestral color make it especially rewarding to hear in person.

Also on the program is Brahms’ Tragic Overture, a compact, powerful work with drama and intensity.

Rounding out our program are songs by Samuel Barber — Nocturne and Sure on This Shining Night — performed by our soloist, soprano Tasha Koontz, whose radiant voice is ideally suited to Barber’s glowing lyricism. We’ll also feature two works by our principal conductor and composer Jordan Kuspa: the vivid and evocative Fire Flowers, and A Dream Within a Dream, a reflective and haunting setting inspired by Edgar Allan Poe.
