- **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 12 Apr, 2026 at 01:00 am – Sun, 12 Apr, 2026 at 06:00 am (+10:00)
- **Event Description**: Come gather round the fire to learn bush skills as we rekindle our ancient ways and reweave connection in the bush, in the beauty of nature. For all those who yearn to deepen roots in community, in nature and in belonging.

Family friendly, welcoming all ages and kids come for free. We value what kids and elders bring to the space. Diversity creates a thriving ecosystem.

What's on this month?
All things wood!
For this rewilding day we will be working with wood, for whittling, for charcoal and for fire. Beginning with our foraging wonder, identifying what wood to use with a focus on invasive and introduced trees out of respect for the native trees. Our day always begins with acknowledging the Custodians and the country, leading with respect and a deeper listening to place and applying the honourable harvest principles. After our foraging wonder we will sit together round the fire learning knife skills and ways to have the carving come from a place of listening and creativity. I’ll be teaching how to make a wooden spoon with a simple knife so there won’t be any need for specific spoon carving knives.

There will also be some kid focused activities acknowledging the school holiday time. Kids will have the opportunity to make charcoal pencils from wood they collect in the nature wonder. They’ll also have the opportunity to find things in nature to draw on such as bark and leaves.

The flow of the day
Arrive at 11am to settle in with a cuppa. Karla will offer a gentle welcome, acknowledging country and custodians and opening our senses to deepen into place and connection with each other.

11.30am - 12.30pm - Foraging wood and carving

12.30pm - 1.30pm - Potluck lunch

1.30-4pm - carving round the fire together

A note on time ~ please be respectful of time, we both want you to be on natures time and on human time so we can honour each offering in the space. We highly recommend being a part of the whole day to learn both foraging skills and carving skills. The foraging wonder is an important part of connecting to country as well!

Karla is your host

Hi, welcome to my backyard, the ancient lands of the Wurrundjeri people and the home of the kookaburra. My passion is bringing people together to connect to nature and deepen our humanity. I hold regular rituals on this land with the intention to weave together community to restore our belonging to the natural world and each other. This is my journey of healing and restoration, for myself, for my community and for nature, the interconnected web of life.

My story

I grew up barefoot in the bush in rural NSW on the lands of the Kamilaroy people, that land and connection still ripples through every cell of my being. I have been walking alongside First Nations since 2016. This was a pivotal time in my journey as I had been grieving the absence of the ancient people of this country and then… I got invited to sit with them in the central desert. Since then my deepest longing has been to connect to country and walk alongside custodians. I run yearly pilgrimages in central Australia and the Kimberley alongside these custodians to bring people into deeper connection, care and reverence with this land and her original people, the oldest living culture in the world.

May this Gatheirng place be a place to deepen into our own roots, to build a thriving ecosystem from the ground up… as we listen to her heart beat and atune to her rhythms and cycles as our ancestors once did… may we remember.
...

We acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people of the Kulin nation as the original Custodians. We acknowledge their ceremony, song and dance that will always live on in the land. May we respect this ancient land, culture and custodians.
