Overview
This unique class will take place across two creative spaces: the Midwest Museum of American Art in Elkhart and at Ida Mae Short’s Printmaking Studio in Goshen. Over the course of five days, participants will have the opportunity to create up to 20 handcrafted holiday cards. You will also have the opportunity to share these handmade cards with local nursing home residents, sharing warmth and creativity with those in our community.
At the MMAA (Monday–Wednesday):
Students will explore the art of linocut printing, learning how to design, carve, and print their own holiday images. Participants may create original designs or use provided templates. Instruction will emphasize safe handling of printmaking tools and materials. Students will also experiment with collage elements and other mixed-media touches.
At Ida’s Studio (Thursday–Friday):
The class will transition to Ida’s Studio in Goshen, where students will complete their holiday cards. Ida will introduce participants to traditional printing equipment and guide them in adding lettering and final decorative details. Finished cards will then be collected and distributed to nursing home residents as heartfelt holiday gifts.
