So . . . you have climbed or are climbing the 46 Adirondack high peaks.
But . . . do you know how it all began 100 years ago?
Did you know there were originally only 42 summits?
Do you know how it became 46?
Did you know there was a book? Two books?
Did you know that this was all the idea of two restless jewish boys from an illustrative family from NYC who spent summers on Lower Saranac Lake?
Did you know that stye had to walk miles and miles just to start each climb and that there were only a dozen or so trails to the high peaks at the time?
Did you know that the Adirondacks they experienced had been ravaged by fire and lumbering?
Well come learn all about the beginnings of 46ing on September 20th at the Adirondack History Museum's People & Peaks event. It is open to the public and free of charge. You can enjoy coffee and muffins while chatting with fellow climbers, see the permanent and seasonal climbing exhibits (something you can not see anywhere else), enjoy an informative program with music by Nocturnne, and then afterward savor a true community picnic social time honoring the first 46ers.
Participation is limited and we need to know how many to feed so make your reservation soon at
