On behalf of our family, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported the Matt Kenney Memorial Golf Outing. This past October marked 20 years since we last laughed and hugged Matt, and yet, through your continued love and support, his legacy remains very much alive.
What began as a 3-on-3 basketball tournament has evolved into a fun, daylong golf event, as a meaningful way to honor Matt's memory. It’s incredible how far Matt’s impact has spread—this past school year, a substitute teacher and I were talking about the outing, and she shared that her son played in one of the many 3-on-3 basketball tournaments Sean organized, starting the summer right after we lost Matt. It was a perfect reminder of how deeply Matt continues to touch lives.
Aside from seeing Maddie and Austin’s faces on Christmas morning, this event is my favorite day of the year. It allows Matt’s youngest brother, Mike, who was only six when we lost Matt, as well as his nieces—Maddie, Tessa, Mia, Ruby, and Daisy—and his nephew, Austin, to know who Matt was and to witness the impact he continues to have, even two decades later.
Each year, I look forward to hearing that John and the Hawkeye Crew will be attending, and I smile when I get Sherry’s text letting me know her flight is booked. I wonder if Chilz and his team will take the title again, and I love seeing how many foursomes Mike pulls together. I also look forward to the day when Matt’s nieces and nephew are out here, golfing with their friends, and witnessing Matt's legacy continue to spread into the next generation.
Although words can never fully express how grateful we are for the role you play in making this bittersweet day so special, a heartfelt thank you will have to do. Thanks to your generosity and support, we gave out three $1,000 scholarships at Geneva High School this past May and continue to gather each year to keep Matt’s memory alive. A special thank you to our sponsors and everyone who contributed their time or donations to make this day possible. We hope everyone is enjoying summer (and staying cool!) and we look forward to seeing everyone on September 13, 2025 at Hughes Creek Golf Course in Elburn.
With love and thanks,
Patti
