Session Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the dementia trajectory and the common challenges faced by people living with dementia in continuing care settings.
2. Identify approaches to promote quality of life and person-centred care for residents with dementia.
3. Recognize the vital role of caregivers and explore strategies to engage and support them effectively in care partnerships.

Dr. Jasneet Parmar is a Care of the Elderly physician and has worked for the Specialized Geriatrics Program, in Edmonton, since 1992. She is a Professor, Department of Family Medicine, University of Alberta. She currently works in the Home living Care of the Elderly Service and provides assessments to homebound seniors. Jasneet has been very active in developing and implementing clinical programs for the care of the elderly. Her research is focused on supporting family caregivers by the healthcare system.
