Cikwes presented by Yardbird Suite

In the spirit of truth and reconciliation Yardbird Suite presents Cikwes, a nehiyaw soul singer, JUNO nominee from Bigstone Cree Nation, and one of Canada’s unique artists; composing music with the ancient art of chanting & hand drumming while deftly blending it with soul, jazz, and RnB.

Cikwes' music explores nehiyawewin (Cree language). Her ethereal vocal style explores the Cree syllabics also known as spirit makers while her heartfelt stories and songs will take you on journey of what it means to be a nehiyaw iskô navigating intergenerational trauma. As a child of both parents that were forced to attend residential schools, Cikwes revitalizes the Cree language through the power of music.
