“Help! My tree has apple maggot!”
If you’ve ever sliced into a perfect-looking apple only to find brown trails, mushy spots, or tiny white worms—you’re not alone. Apple maggot (Rhagoletis pomonella) is Canada’s most common fruit tree pest, and it’s hitting trees hard from Edmonton to Calgary to smaller towns all over Alberta.
Join us for our Apple Maggot Control Workshop—a virtual, $10 training that will help you recognize, prevent, and manage infestations without resorting to harsh chemicals.
💻 What You’ll Learn:
Get past the “ick” factor and gain real knowledge from a certified pest management specialist. This workshop covers:
✅ What apple maggot is and why it’s a problem in Alberta
✅ How to know if your tree is infested
✅ What to do with maggoty apples (yes, some can still be used!)
✅ Proven methods to protect your apples—without synthetic sprays
✅ How to time your prevention efforts in Edmonton’s growing season
✅ What tools and traps actually work for backyard growers, school gardens, and urban homesteads
