Course Summary:
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Each year thousands of Americans, like you, are saying “Yes” to saving the life of a friend, colleague, sibling, or neighbor. During this training, participants will learn how to recognize suicide warning signs, intervene with QPR, and how to offer emotional support while making an expert referral.
As a QPR-trained Gatekeeper you will learn to:
Describe the common myths and facts surrounding suicide
Identify unique verbal, behavioral, and situational suicide warning signs
Offer science-based emotional support to someone in crisis.
Recognize at least three suicide warning signs
Recognize at least three risk factors for suicide
Recognize at least three protective factors against suicide
Demonstrate increased knowledge, skills, self-efficacy and intent to act to intervene with someone at risk of suicide
Describe evidence-based treatments for suicide
Know how to engage and assist a suicidal colleague or co-worker
Describe how to locate referral resources and how to access them
