How do female illustrators explore and express fear through their art?
This exhibition invites audiences to reflect on both personal and collective anxieties tied to womanhood, as seen through the work of two powerful visual artists.
🔸 Pilar García de Leániz – Award-winning Spanish illustrator based in Edinburgh and creator of the official IberoDocs 2025 poster. Her work features sea creatures that transcend gender binaries, resonating with this year’s festival theme: fluidity and transformation.

🔸 Draya Madú – Mexican muralist, painter, and illustrator also based in Edinburgh. Her figurative and fantastical style explores nature, human connection, and inner landscapes. Her pieces evoke dreamlike worlds where fear and femininity intertwine with beauty and strength.
