DR HALLE O'NEAL: Kintsugi Workshop

Dr Halle O'Neal joins us this February for a creative evening of finding the beauty in imperfections with her popular kintsugi workshop.

In Japanese culture, there's a philosophy that imperfections should be embraced, and this is embodied in the centuries-old art of kintsugi, in which gold lacquer is used to repair ceramics. Rather than hiding the cracks, this visible act of mending illuminates them, creating something beautiful out of what was once broken. Capturing imaginations across the world, this is your chance to absorb the history of kintsugi and its modern evolution with artist and academic Halle O'Neal as you enact the practice yourself.

Kintsugi kits will be provided on the night.


About our workshop leader:
Dr Halle O’Neal is a specialist in Japanese art at the University of Edinburgh and Co-Director of the Edinburgh Centre for Buddhist Studies. She explores themes of impermanence, care, and repair through her scholarship and art practice. Through small-group kintsugi workshops, she offers a fun, meaningful way to experience the beauty of repair, resilience, and transformation.
