MEET THE ARTISTS
STEPHEN PAIX - Keyboards/saxophone/vocals/Harpejji
Steve Paix has shared the stage with members of Crowded House, TISM and even Michael Bublé and now he’s getting behind the microphone to present his own songs. His lyrics contain a mix of humour, philosophy and social commentary while his piano stye is an eclectic gumbo of blues, jazz and country sounds. Steve is a local around the Marysville area and he’s just as at home backing a sultry singer in a Melbourne jazz cellar as he is playing solo at a community market. If you’re a fan of the likes of Randy Newman, Ray Charles and Elton John you’ll be sure to enjoy the sometimes thought provoking, sometimes laugh-out-loud songs of Steve Paix.
DAVID BATHGATE – Guitar/trumpet
Originally from Deniliquin, Dave was fortunate to study music in Melbourne, where he met and performed with many outstanding musicians — including Steve Paix, who will also be playing at this concert. Growing up, Dave and his sister Natasha (also performing at this concert) would often sing and harmonise together, developing their skills while having loads of fun. A lifelong guitarist, Dave has a deep love for improvised music in many styles, a passion that has been with him since his early years. The Conservatorium is very proud to have Dave as one of their multi-instrumental teachers.
NATASHA CHILDS – Vocals
Natasha is a jazz and contemporary singer with a passion for songs that tell a story and paint a picture. She performs with a Melbourne based cover band and is honoured to take to the stage with musicians of the calibre of Dave and Steve for this event.
